A Wix replacement built to rank suburb by suburb across Brisbane

Brisbane Smart Vending places free, fully managed vending machines at Brisbane workplaces. I replaced its Wix site with a fast Next.js build, 54 suburb landing pages and local SEO from the first commit.

The brief

Brisbane Smart Vending puts vending machines into workplaces, gyms, warehouses and other sites around Greater Brisbane, at no cost to the host. The business supplies the machine, keeps it stocked and runs the sales.

Its Wix site was expensive to maintain and invisible in local search. There was no structured data, no contact details and nothing that spoke to the individual suburbs where customers actually search, from the CBD out to Ipswich and Logan. The owner needed enquiries from those suburbs, and needed them soon.

What I built, and why

  1. A working demo before any commitment

I built a free demo in May 2026, so the owner could compare it side by side with the Wix site before committing to anything.

The full rebuild followed in June: a page for each service, a site-visit request form, and one content file that drives the navigation and the sitemap, so a page can't quietly drop out of either.

  2. 54 suburb pages that aren't copy-paste clones

People search for vending machines plus a suburb, and the competitors who ranked had pages for exactly that. So I built 54 suburb landing pages at /vending-machines/[suburb].

Each one draws on one of ten area “voices” plus a hand-written line for that suburb, and has its own metadata, Service and breadcrumb data, and links to nearby suburbs. The build fails if the suburb list ever drifts out of sync with the service-area page.

  3. Show a machine, rather than be one

The launch design turned the whole page into an interactive vending machine. The owner asked for a site that shows a vending machine instead, so in July I rebuilt the look as a clean, conventional site with an illustrated machine in the hero.

Content, structured data and URLs stayed exactly the same, so none of the SEO work was lost in the redesign.

  4. The owner's own machines, not stock photos

In October 2026 I added a gallery of the owner's own machine photos. Someone deciding whether to host a machine wants to see what will actually turn up, and stock imagery can't show that.

The photos are served as AVIF or WebP and lazy-loaded with fixed dimensions, so they don't slow the page down or shift the layout as they arrive.

  5. Search Console, redirects and lead tracking

After verifying the site in Google Search Console in July, I 301-redirected the old Wix URLs Google still had indexed, so old links and bookmarks land somewhere useful.

I installed the Google Ads tag through a single script load, with a lead event that fires only when the form actually sends. An owner dashboard from my site template covers traffic, enquiries, uptime and a board where the owner can request or approve work from me.

What shipped

  • Live at brisbanesmartvending.com.au, launched and handed over in June 2026.
  • Service pages for the machines, management and restocking, how hosting works, the product range, industries served, service area, results and about.
  • 54 suburb landing pages, live since 10 July 2026, all linked from the service-area page and listed in the sitemap.
  • LocalBusiness structured data listing every suburb served, plus FAQPage, Service, Organization, WebSite and BreadcrumbList, with a unique title, description and share image on every page, one per suburb included.
  • A site-visit request form sent through my shared mail service.
  • Search Console verified in July 2026, and three legacy Wix URLs now 301 to their closest page.
  • The Google Ads tag, live since 28 August 2026, with a lead event on successful form sends.
  • Pages that render without JavaScript, with the owner dashboard kept out of search.

Ranking and enquiry figures aren't published here until the owner has approved them.

Questions about this project

What was wrong with the old Wix site?

It looked fine but couldn't be found. There was no structured data, no contact details and no suburb-level content, so in local search it was effectively invisible. I rebuilt it on Next.js with all of that in place from day one.

Why build a separate page for every suburb?

Because that's how people search (“vending machines Eight Mile Plains”), and the competitors who ranked were doing it. Brisbane Smart Vending now has 54 suburb pages. Each one has its own copy, its own metadata and links to nearby suburbs, so they don't read as copy-paste clones.

Will moving off our old site break links people already have?

Not if the move is done properly. After verifying Brisbane Smart Vending in Search Console, I found the old Wix URLs Google still had indexed and set up permanent redirects to the closest new page.

Can you change the design after launch if it isn't working for us?

Yes. Brisbane Smart Vending's first design made the whole site an interactive vending machine. The client wanted a site that shows a machine instead, so I rebuilt the look as a clean, conventional site with an illustrated machine in the hero. The URLs, content and SEO setup stayed exactly as they were.

Do you run Google Ads as well as SEO?

I can. For Brisbane Smart Vending I planned a campaign with each ad pointing at the matching suburb landing page, and set up the tracking so a sent enquiry counts as a lead. The same suburb pages then do double duty for organic search and paid clicks.

Can you take over from our current web developer?

Yes, that's how this project started. I built Brisbane Smart Vending a working demo first, so they could compare it with what they had before deciding anything. Get in touch and I'll take a look at your current site.
